Deal With Injuries When In The Wilderness

A little forethought and organization will payoff in a great memorable
adventure for that next outdoors excursion you may have planned.

The older liquid gas lanterns give off just as much light but you will have
to refill the tank with liquid gas and this can be messy as well as
dangerous if you are not careful. Both types of lanterns use mantels so be
sure to carry extras.

Have you ever thought you might like to try a totally different Vacation?
Is the cost of your Vacation this year a problem? Did you know that a
week long Camping Vacation for a family of four can work out to under a
$1000.

To go camping does not have to cost a arm and a leg. With the basics
found in your home you could go today.

You are in danger of lightning if you can hear thunder,¡± states Weaver.
¡°Seek shelter inside an enclosed structure; if that is not possible squat low
to the ground, with your feet close together and your head between
your knees.¡± Maintain minimal contact with the ground and do not lie flat.
It is important to check beforehand as to where cycling is allowed. Most
National Parks only allow biking on the paved and backcountry dirt roads
throughout the parks. Most hiking trails do not allow bicycles. Most of your
cycling through the parks will be done on the same roads used for cars.

A large van called an RV in employed by many campers, or more
commonly in the UK a caravan is attached to a car. Both of these serve as
basic mobile homes, with beds, gas and sometimes electricity.

More and more people are traveling these days for different reasons.
Some travel for adventure, some to be close to nature and some for just
a rejuvenating weekend getaway. Nature is everywhere, so you don't
need to travel far for your camping trip. You can journey to a national
park, drive to a local campground, or pitch a tent in your own backyard.

How To Deal With Injuries When In The Wilderness

Many people head into the woods to hunt, to camp or to just feel the
raw beauty of nature. But just when you are in the middle of enjoying
the sweet scent of the woods and having a great time - accidents can
happen anytime. If you are caught with an injury in the middle of your
wilderness adventure, here are some guidelines and quick tips you need
to know.

Animal Bites

In the wild there are a ferocious animals that can bite anyone who
intrudes their property. If you are bitten by any kind of wild animal the
first thing to do is wash the infected area with clean water and soap (a
germicidal soap is best) as soon as you can. Scrub the wounded area just
a little. After doing so, cover the wound with a clean bandage. When you
head home, be sure to see your doctor to check on the wound. He may
prescribe antibiotics or a tetanus booster depending on the animal bite.

Insect Stings

The point is to treat your family to an unforgettable outdoor adventure,
so it doesn't matter how you plan to camp or where you intend to go.

Read online consumer reviews on anything from backpacks, sleeping bags,
tents, camping furniture and anything else camping related you could
think of. More on Camping Outdoor.

Camping is relatively inexpensive, often nostalgic, and gives campers a
chance to really appreciate their natural world. Cross country skiing is a
wonderful way to experience the parks wilderness during the winter
season. Snowshoeing trails may also be available in parks.

Therefore in order to make sure that you have a pleasant camping
adventure, make sure that you are fully clothed against all odds.

You will need ice to keep the frozen foods cool. Save up you milk
containers plastic works best wash out and fill ? full of water an place
in the freezer. When you have a few frozen containers you now
have the ice that will keep your food cold.

The next time you are planning on a great camping experience,
don't let the hassle of choosing a campsite get you down. Visit
one of these great websites. With the thousands of
campgrounds from which to choose, there is bound to be a place
that is perfect for you and your family. Be sure the lantern you
buy is weather proof. If you are camping in colder weather the
gas type of lanterns would be your best choice because not only
do they give of a bright light they also give off a fair amount of
heat. Never use the gas lanterns in the tent.

The thought of camping alone can be very intimidating,
especially if you¡¯re a woman. Ideally, it is not something recommended
to women new to camping.

Almost all kinds of insects breed in the woods. When you feel an insect
sting, remove any of the insect's remains on the affected skin. Leave the
place where you got the insect sting because chances are there are a lot
of insects that would bite you if you stayed there any longer. If stingers
are still lodged deep in your skin, remove them by using a thin and hard
material (like a credit card or your fingernail) and scrape out the foreign
body. Remove jewelry, like rings, if you're fingers are affected. Tight
jewelry can hinder the flow of your blood. To ease the pain, you can rub
a salt and water solution or a baking soda paste on the affected area.

Ankle Fracture

Trekking can cause ankle fractures. If this happens, keep your ankles
elevated and try not to move it. This can help minimize the pain and the
swelling. If you have cold packs in your luggage, apply them to the injured
area.

Head Injury

If you acquire head bumps, apply ice packs if they are readily available. If
not, you can use ice wrapped in cloth or if you have some frozen items in
your backpack you can use them as a replacement for ice. You can also
make your own ice pack by mixing 1/3 cup of isopropyl alcohol and 2/3-
cup water in a zip lock bag.

When going into the wilderness, always remember to take along a first aid
kit. This can prove to be very important if accidents and injuries happen in
the middle of your trip.

Don't forget sunscreen, bug spray and hygiene items. Toilet paper and
paper towels are absolute necessities. Bring along some soap and
toothpaste, but leave the hair gel and makeup at home. Mother Nature
doesn't care what you look like. She just wants you to enjoy your stay.

Apart from being submerged in wilderness, an important component of
camping is the interaction with the localities, villagers and natives. These
native guides know the unexplored places, the less traveled paths, the
unknown facts, myths and stories about the locations.

Always be prepared for the weather when hiking. Carry a daypack with
some water, a rain/wind jacket, a fleece/wool jacket or sweater, a first aid
kit and some food. Good hiking boots are essential. On some of your hikes
it is quite likely you will come across wildlife such as moose, black bears
and grizzly bears, big horn sheep and deer.

Whatever activity you decide to enjoy, it is always wise to do a little
research to know ahead of time what to expect, always check what the
weather conditions will be to avoid any dangerous situations.

Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. You¡¯re number one priority when you¡¯re
camping should be to have a good time and enjoy nature ¨C something
that is difficult to do when you¡¯re sick and exhausted. Be sure to take
camping food with you that will keep you well fed and your energy level
up. Energy bars and gels don¡¯t usually weigh a lot and pack a serious
nutrition punch, making them great for the trail. If you don¡¯t cook a lot at
home and don¡¯t plan to while you¡¯re camping, do yourself a favor and eat
more than candy bars and licorice. Just about anyone can boil water, so
just about anyone can take some prepared camping foods on their trip
and eat well. With the hectic life many of us lead it would certainly be
great to just "get away" from civilization and have fun in the wild
outdoors. How many of us really know what to do when we get there or
what to take with us in the "survival pack"? Camping can be a really
refreshing lift to life, but roughing it may not come without some sort of
price. Adequate preparation is a must and may prevent your trip into the
wilds from becoming a disaster.

The first Summer that I lived in Colorado provided me with an opportunity
to spend six weeks camping in the western Rocky Mountains, during June
and July. In preparation for a summer in the outdoors, I acquired an
eleven-year-old1985 Dodge Ramcharger, a model famous for its 4x4
capability and ruggedness. Conversion van camping doesn't give you the
luxury of life in an RV, nor the discomfort of sleeping in a tent. It can be
tough to safely heat a van at night, but it's cheap compared to an RV,
and you can go places they cannot. We spent more than 25 nights
sleeping in our conversion van last year.

Instead of going up to other campers and saying, ¡°Hi, I¡¯m Kerry and I¡¯m
here by myself¡± ask questions like ¡°How can I contact you if I experience
a problem¡± or ¡°is this campground regularly patrolled?¡±Don¡¯t advertise you
are by yourself by finding campsites away from walking trailsMore onCamping Outdoors Tips.
